Please note that we are always receiving new products and inventory and that many of our items are seasonal, so this list is really intended more to provide you with a sense of the variety of goods that are available at Barrels than to serve as an exact list of our inventory. Supplier Criteria

The goods offered at Barrels Market reflect our mission to buy and sell food, crafts, and tools that are produced locally and sustainably from naturally occurring inputs. We have established ambitious buying parameters to guide our advisory board and management staff in determining which products we will carry. “Local” is our greatest emphasis, defined as within a 20-mile radius of Waterville whenever possible, and within the State of Maine after that.

For items that cannot be grown or produced in Maine, we find suppliers outside of the State that fit our other buying parameters. We only do this for essential produce and staple items, so we can maintain our emphasis on seasonality and living within our local ecosystem. It is also our intent to ensure that the goods at the market are priced affordably.

We define “affordable” in terms of:

  1. How the price is be perceived by the average consumer that shops at Barrels
  2. If our suppliers can comfortably meet it.

 

We arrive at these prices through consumer and supplier feedback, surveys, and similar pricing in the area.
